The Corts were looking for a little something to set their home apart from their neighbors, in their tidy 31-home development in Potomac, Md. Here, where each home is a slight variation on a standard architecture plan, the Corts looked to the outside of their home for creative inspiration. Their asphalt driveway was doing little to enliven their home, so that’s where they decided to effect some change. Systems Paving was called in to replace their worn and tired asphalt with an interlocking paving stone driveway.

The results were an old-town cobble patterned driveway made up of 6” x 6” and 6”x 9” paving stones in a pewter blend. To Carrie Cort, the pale, subtle gray color dressed up their home and gave it an elegant, estate look that was "finished, but not fussy." Carrie says, “We wanted our home to look attractive, but at the same time, we didn’t want to labor over a driveway to keep it clean or functional."

An interlocking paver driveway was not only ideal for the harsh weather conditions, but they found it to be very low maintenance, too. “We don’t have to do anything in terms of care,” says Carrie. “We spray it down with a hose and wash with a gentle detergent if it gets stained.”

With the Cort’s old, cracked and lack-luster driveway, repair options were limited to pouring additional tar on top of the surface. It was a short-term solution yielding visually unappealing results.
